Black Stars qualifying for AFCON 2027 will be a ‘miracle’ – Laryea Kingston

Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston believes the Black Stars could miss out on qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the second time in a row.

According to him, the results after two games make it difficult for Ghana to bounce back and get into the conversation to qualify for the tournament to be staged in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Ghana sit bottom of the group after no points from their two games against Cote d’Ivoire and Gambia, losing to the latter at the Accra Sports Stadium despite taking a two-goal lead.

The Black Stars, who are hoping to return to the continental tournament after missing the last edition, have a doubleheader against Somalia up next in the qualifying series but Kingston believes Ghana making next year’s tournament will be a miracle.

“Looking at the situation now, it will be a miracle for us to qualify,” he told 3Sports.

“Two teams have six points; it means Ghana will have to win all games. For me, it will be very difficult, and it will take a miracle to turn things around.”

The Black Stars have failed to win an AFCON qualifier since September 2023 and failed to register a victory in the qualifiers for the last edition of the tournament.
