The West African Examinations Council has announced the release of the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

In a press release signed by its Head of Public Affairs, John K. Kapi, WAEC disclosed that the results will be dispatched to schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education. Candidates who wish to check their results online can also access them via WAEC’s official website.
According to the Council, a total of 620,243 candidates from 20,789 schools registered for this year’s examination. The figure comprises 304,415 males and 315,828 females who sat for the examination at 2,237 centres across the country. The candidates included 136 persons with visual impairment, 282 with hearing assessment needs and 510 who required other forms of test accommodation. WAEC also disclosed that 3,601 registered candidates were absent from the examination.
Following investigations into examination malpractice, WAEC sanctioned several candidates for various offences. The Council cancelled the subject results of 496 candidates and the entire results of 105 candidates. It also withheld the subject results of 119 candidates and the entire results of 48 candidates pending further investigations.

In addition, the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld for further scrutiny. WAEC said the affected results may either be released or cancelled after investigations are concluded by August 31, 2026.
Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld have been directed to visit WAEC’s irregularities portal to view the reasons for the sanctions and any further action required. Heads of schools and proprietors can also use their results listing login credentials to check the status of affected candidates.
The Council further cautioned candidates and the general public against fraudsters who claim they can upgrade examination results for a fee. It stressed that WAEC’s results are secure and can be authenticated, urging stakeholders not to fall victim to such scams.
WAEC further expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and all stakeholders whose support contributed to the successful conduct of the 2026 BECE and the release of the provisional results.
